Detective Chu Li "Julie" Chang, NTPD

Detective Chang is an experienced New Troy policeman, working out of the West First Precinct.  Despite being turned down for the armed forces during the war, Chang is a canny, hard-hitting defender of law and order.  Whether through chance or because he has a knack for them, a lot of the odd cases end up landing on his desk.  An American-born Chinese man, Chang has a large extended family in Shanglan including his cousin, Private Investigator Chen Li "Hot Iron Jenny" Chang.

Susannah Shaype-Leigh

A freshman journalism student at Rathaus University, Susannah is a Southern Belle from the top of her wide-brimmed floppy hat to the heels of her white patent leather shoes.  Gorgeous, well-dressed, flirtatious, and honey-tongued, it's easy to overlook the fact that she's got a sharp mind and a sharper pencil.  If she ever makes it into a real newspaper, look out world.

Tor Dokort 

Owner and chief mechanic of Tor Motorsmith, an automotive workshop in Vulcan's Anvil.  Tor's business has been open for less than a year, but he's already established a reputation for reliable and unusual vehicles.  Tor himself is an unusual person, apparently very young for a business owner (and a vehicle designer).  Even stranger, he is a Vani, probably the only Vani in New Troy to even own an automobile, let alone work on them.  Tor's shop will repair normal automobiles, but he prefers to do his own upgrades and sell vehicles of his own design.

Kepi Aswajan

Orphaned ward of Dr. Alan Aldridge, Kepi is a young woman of 18 years of age.  Pretty but apparently quite modest and demure, Kepi usually acts as the professor's housekeeper and secretary out of devotion to her guardian.  That devotion has taken on a whole new level recently as Kepi has taken it on herself to aid Professor Aldridge in his heroic efforts as well, disguising herself as the messenger Baket and volunteering to create and look after a headquarters space for the team.
