Firebrand

Powers:

Fire and Heat Generation:

            Firebrand can generate fire from his own body, though currently this ability is limited only to his limbs. He can launch streams of flame or hurl fireballs from his hands.  He is also able to generate pure heat, and is able to control its temperature, though so far he cannot make it too hot if he doesn't concentrate.

Flight:

            When Firebrand generates fire from his legs, he can use the thrust created by it to propel himself off of the ground and fly. Currently he is limited to subsonic speeds, but he may be able to break the sound barrier with time to learn and develop his powers.

Invulnerability:

            Firebrand is immune to fire and heat, though what temperatures he can withstand is currently unknown.

Description:

                Kieran Connolly is a tall and very handsome young man of eighteen years (his birthday is in the fall). He keeps his dark brown hair trimmed neatly, and his dark blue eyes smolder with volcanic intensity when he gets angry. He stands at around six feet in height with a strong, athletic build.

            When he uses his powers, Kieran transforms into something out of myth: his skin takes on a golden tinge, his hair becomes a fiery red, and his eyes are replaced by pure flame, which trails from his eyes when he moves. His costume is made of Lexulon, the only clothing substance that doesn't burn away when his powers are activated. The form-fitting outfit is predominantly red with orange and gold trim in the shape of flames, which begin at his gloves and boots and trail up his arms and legs. A gold-colored belt separates his upper and lower body, and the symbol on his chest is a red and gold fireball.

Background:

            Kieran grew up in a working class family in the Irish neighborhood of West Kerry. As a child, he idolized his older brother, Michael, and followed him around everywhere. Michael volunteered to serve in World War II and was killed on D-Day in June 1944. Kieran was devastated; he couldn't believe that his hero could have died like that.

          Kieran's parents impressed on him the importance of school, so that he could go to college and have the kind of life their ancestors had left Ireland to achieve. He studied hard and was one of the best students in his class, and earned an academic scholarship to Rathaus University in Amsterdam Heights.

          Kieran was just starting his second semester at Rathaus when he began to change. He can't recall any specific event that may have caused it; all he can remember is waking up in the middle of the night and finding that his bed was on fire, but it wasn't burning him. Even before his change, Kieran was an athletic young man who was in decent shape, but after the change, he grew several inches in height and his muscle development accelerated rapidly. Kieran wasn't the only one to notice the changes; he soon became the crush of every girl at school, and the coach of Rathaus' football team practically begged him to sign up.

          Over the past few weeks, when he hasn't been busy with school, football, or working at his father's automotive repair shop, Kieran has been secretly practicing his newfound powers. He was scared of them at first, but quickly realized that he could use these abilities to become a hero himself.

Personality:

          Kieran is a friendly, hardworking, diligent, and kind-hearted young man. He is respectful to everybody and immediately treats people as if they've been friends of his all his life. However, he has a short temper, and doesn't take abuse or disrespect from others easily. It's never been a good idea to make Kieran mad, and that has only become truer in recent months.
